Walk Fido: Downtown LA Dog Stories - Dog Day Afternoon: Episode #1

For those of us who work with rescue organizations every day, there is a sad, sad phrase that is often uttered about the single most difficult type of dogs to find homes for: big black dogs. No matter how lovely the dog is, no matter how perfect the temperament, many potential adoptive families overlook big black dogs at shelters all across the country in favor of dogs that have more unique coloring (blue! red! orange with stripes! white with brown spots!). This issue is so close to our hearts (we have a little black pit bull after all!) that we've decided to feature a weekly roundup of local BBDs that need homes. Their photos and links to their profile on PetFinder will remain on our site until these dogs find a home.

Downtown LA Dog Stories - Dog Day Afternoon: Episode #1

What's your downtown LA dog story? Walk Fido is spending the next few months documenting dog stories all over downtown LA to celebrate the diverse community of dogs, dog owners, dog lovers and all those who don't quite know what to make of it yet. We hope that this project will help shed light on what is really happening within our community and how people really feel about dogs downtown. We hope this project will allow us to start a healthy dialogue about how to celebrate the good things and fix some of the not so good things.

Our first downtown dog story was filmed this week at Dog Day Afternoon and highlights a nice side-benefit of walking your dog downtown: you can do it with a good friend. Enjoy!
