It has been a busy year at Walk Fido and we are so excited about the many things we have planned for all of our furry friends in 2009.  The downtown dog scene has exploded this year and a number of excellent new services have opened to make sure all our fido needs are met.  We will be highlighting many of these great businesses and the people who run them in the next few months and we'll have a gaggle of news and coverage each week. It promises to be a great year. Are you ready?

As the season for giving thanks draws near, we want to thank all of you for your continued support, kind words, lovely referrals and the ongoing dialogue about how to make sure our fidos are the best fidos they can be!  All of us here at Walk Fido wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

Animal Ownership - Where Do You Fit In?

David's latest contribution to Oh Audrey is up and it focuses on a few different ways you can neglect your dogs even if you are giving them constant care. Here's a sneak peek:

"In our busy lives, we need to remind ourselves that if we truly care for our animals, then we must be willing to learn about and address their needs from their perspective whenever possible. Taking the time to educate ourselves about our animals is part of the fun of spending our days with these creatures."

And one more for good measure:

"Dogs do not need yards to be happy. Dogs need walks, exercise and socialization with other dogs and people every day to be happy. Dogs need rules and leadership just like they would have from each other if we were not here with them. The wild is not an easy, always safe place to survive. The rules of nature are serious and those who don't work hard lose out. Most owners forget this and let their animals determine every aspect of their relationship."

Walk Fido in the LA Times

Walk Fido was mentioned in a recent LA Times article about downtown loft living and the "new breed of resident" that has shacked up downtown.  Great news for Walk Fido & great news for downtown.  While the shift in our community brings its own challenges and concerns (gentrification), we are pleased to be part of any movement that benefits dogs!  Downtown has quickly developed an impressive network of dog owners, dog professionals & high-profile events for dog lovers of all stripes.  This blog will be dedicated to providing downtown (and beyond!) readers with dog training tips as well as downtown dog news, rescue information, resources and events.  Walk Fido exists to ensure the well-being of all dogs in our community and what better way to extend the health and well-being of dogs in the community than to be an active part of it?
